Neighborhood
The pretty village of Birstall is located in the Kirklees area of West Yorkshire. Popular for famous moorland and beautiful countryside, there are plenty of walks right on the doorstep. Birstall is still dominated by period architecture dating back to the Industrial Revolution so you’ll find plenty of history around the village.

Just over the road from Oakwell Cottage you’ll find Oakwell Hall. This Grade I Listed Elizabethan manor house is home to 110 acres of beautiful land to explore. A Green Flag Award winning country park with period gardens, nature trails, mountain bike track, playground and picnic areas, Oakwell Hall is ideal for keen walkers.

With independent stores, cafes and pubs, the nearby town of Batley has a wide variety of shops to discover. You’ll often find market stalls in the town centre so we’d definitely recommend taking a look as you explore. If you’d like a step back into the past, head to one of the converted mills where you can find factory outlets and shopping villages.

In the summer months, take a trip to Wilton Park to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of a butterfly house. There are also many other attractions nearby such as the Bagshaw Museum which is a grand stately home, or the Yorkshire Motor Museum where you’ll find a small, but interesting collection of vintage cars.

Getting Around
Birstall is within 30-minutes drive time of Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield so it’s perfectly located for exploring and working in West Yorkshire.

Located a short distance from junction 27 on the M62, you’ll have quick access to Britain’s motorway network. A retail park can also be found at the junction so you’ll be able to shop away to your heart’s content during your stay at Oakwell Cottage.

Batley train station is 10 minutes from the property and has regular routes to Leeds, Huddersfield and Wigan. Leeds train station is also 20 minutes away from the property by road.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Birstall. Hop on the 281 which travels to Dewsbury or the 283 which has stops throughout the area, terminating in Bradford.

A great property. Really easy instructions to gain access and the property itself is beautiful. Location is perfect for the local village or access to the city. Will definitely use again on my travels to the Uk.

My 2nd time here & what a great little place to stay. It feels like home from home on an evening, great comfy bed.
It has a couple of pubs in walking distance and has easy access to the M62 & M1 motorways, it's a great location 15 minutes drive from Leeds centre on a morning.
Will stay here again when I am up in Leeds for sure. Perfect stay.

Unfortunately although this place is aesthetically pleasing, from a practical perspective this was not a comfortable place to stay for us. It was cold and noisy. Property is on a main road and has single glazed windows upstairs so you can hear cars driving past throughout the night and gets cold quickly. The heating is locked down with a pin, which they do not provide so you cannot increase the heat upstairs.

Only 1 large towel provided for 2 adult guests. Over use of reed diffusers and in a small space the fragrance is overpowering.

If you want a warm, comfortable and peaceful stay, unfortunately this may not be the place for you, unless the owner makes some much needed changes. We left on the 2nd night of a 2 night stay due to the cold and the PIN not being provided despite requesting multiple times. Unfortunately had to raise a complaint with Host & Stay, awaiting resolution.
