Perfectly blending comfort with charm, this delightful original Millworker’s cottage offers an ideal retreat for up to four guests across its three inviting floors.
The Space
Upon entering, you’ll find a lovely sitting room, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Adjacent to the sitting room is a separate dining area where you can enjoy meals together, creating lasting memories. The well-equipped kitchen features modern amenities, including a dishwasher, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, pots, and cutlery, ensuring you have everything you need for a convenient and enjoyable stay.
Step outside to the contained garden and patio area at the back of the property. There is also a spacious utility area before heading back inside, ensuring your cottage remains clean and comfortable.
Ascend to the first floor to discover a beautifully appointed double bedroom, offering a peaceful haven for rest and relaxation. Also on this floor is a stunning, cosy bathroom, providing a luxurious space to unwind and refresh. The second floor is home to the primary bedroom, a serene retreat with ample space and comfort. This room is designed to ensure a restful night’s sleep, making it the perfect end to a day of adventures.
Elsie’s Escape is thoughtfully equipped for families, offering a travel cot and high chair on request for younger guests. This attention to detail ensures that even the littlest members of your group feel at home.
Neighborhood
Nestled in the heart of Derbyshire, the historic town of Cromford offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and charming attractions. Known for its pivotal role in the Industrial Revolution, Cromford is a fascinating destination that invites visitors to explore its heritage, scenic landscapes, and vibrant community.
A Town steeped in history Cromford is most famous for being the birthplace of the modern factory system, thanks to Sir Richard Arkwright, who established the world’s first water-powered cotton spinning mill here in 1771.
The Cromford Mills, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers visitors a chance to step back in time and learn about this revolutionary period. The mills feature guided tours, interactive exhibits, and a visitor centre, providing a comprehensive insight into the town’s industrial past.
Surrounded by the stunning Peak District National Park, Cromford is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Getting Around
Cromford is a town located only 2 miles south of Matlock. Both towns have very good links to bus and train lines, meaning public transport is readily available.
Cromford is served by a small but functional train station, which is part of the Derby to Matlock line. Trains from Cromford typically go to Matlock and Derby, with connections to Nottingham and Chesterfield.
The area has a number of bus routes that serve Matlock and Cromford, as well as nearby towns like Wirksworth and Bakewell. If you head the short journey into Matlock, the bus station is located in the town centre, near the main shopping area and transport hubs. There are several bus services that run from Matlock town centre, and can take you to local spots like Darley Dale, Bakewell, and Ashbourne, as well as to larger towns such as Buxton and Chesterfield.

We had a fantastic few days at Elsie’s Escape. The cottage was lovely, clean and cosy. Would definitely recommend. The area was beautiful and we would love to visit again.
