Very lovely cottage in the heart of Dalby Forest, Beautiful setting, very peaceful and tranquil All you can hear are the birds singing and the sound of the stream running through the property. Only a stone throw away from Thornton le Dale, one of the most beautiful towns in the Yorkshire dales

Nothing really unless you do not like it being very quiet .

Kingfisher Cottage is a great place a few nights away in Dalby Forest.
Very clean, well equipped & maintained. Excellent communication from Host & Stay throughout.
Could just do with another table/standard lamp close to the dining table.
Will definitely stay again in the future.

Location in Dalby forest

Wasn’t private at all didn’t explain in description that was next to the main house being a B&B or a cottage attached next door. Should be clearly explained.

We had a lovely stay at Kingfisher Cottage, thank you.
The cottage itself was cosy, clean and peaceful with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The gardens are absolutely stunning with so many areas to sit, relax and explore.
The location is perfect, not far from the visitors centre in Dalby. Pickering and Thornton Le Dale are both a short drive away with lots of options for eating and shopping.
The hosts were easily contacted and made the check in a breeze. The welcome basket was a lovely touch, thanks again.

Lovely location. It was very kind for Ian to wait for us to arrive in case we couldn’t find the way in the dark.

We had no issue with property for our stay. However, the company Host&Stay had shared different information regarding the deposit refund policy. My confirmation says fully refundable, however, once we paid for our booking, they sent another message and said £10 admin charge will be taken off from the deposit. I had tried to dispute the charge with the company and they had ignored my complain. I raised the issue with Booking dot com, they advised me that they will refund me £10 admin charge and I should pay the deposit to secure my booking as I paid the booking fees at that time. After I sent my bank statements to show the charge of £10, Booking dot com changed their words and refused to refund the charge on the basis of the information was in the listing information, which I believe it has been updated after my persistant dispute? Mis information and mislead customers, which I do not appreciate and I don’t think others would either. Such a shame as the overall experience was brilliant apart from that.

The cottage was exactly as pictured - cozy and clean with plenty of space to relax and unwind.
The location was fantastic - situated in a peaceful area yet close enough to explore various parts of the North Yorkshire Moors. The hosts were friendly and communicative, ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. They even left us a basket of things like biscuits and bread, which was a very nice touch!

Absolutely beautiful cottage with stunning surroundings so peaceful with a stunning view of the stars on a clear night and a cute little owl we could hear in the evening. Had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and made it a home from home. Phone signal on three was none existent but that wasn’t a bad thing. Calls could be made and accepted via What a app or messenger via the internet.
Shops were approx 4 miles away and within walking distance of go ape and the visitor centre. Would love to come back again in summer as I’m sure it would be even more beautiful. Lovely hosts provided plenty of info in advance. Would definitely recommend to anyone who was looking for a peaceful retreat to recharge their batteries. Thanks

What a fantastic few days. Dalby Forest is breathtaking, but High Dalby House & Kingfisher Cottage are the hidden gem within.
Slap bang in the middle of the forest, this peaceful retreat was the perfect launchpad for our woodland adventures. Dog friendly, with secure bike storage and only a few minutes walk from the main visitor centre attractions for those looking for an active break Kingfisher Cottage is perfect.
The private grounds are marvelous. The gardens, lake, labyrinth, sauna, hot tub and numerous bespoke sitting places where you can just relax and be.
Ian and Lindya were equally brilliant. Helpful, passionate about their spaces and bursting with information and recommendations that helped us make the most of every moment we had there.
We loved this place so much that we booked another visit for the spring before we left.

If Dalby forest is what you're looking for, you couldn't find a better place in terms of location. The cottage is within Dalby forest, 750m from the visitor centre, so we spent the whole week walking, running, and biking with our 3 dogs. Loads of the trails are within a 5 minute walk from the cottage, or it's a 5 minute drive to the other side of the forest to get onto the bike trails from Dixon's hollow.
The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. They popped over to give us all of the information we needed and allowed us to store our bikes in their locked outbuilding, and even let us leave our bikes in there for a couple of hours after we checked out whilst we went for a walk. Nothing was too much trouble.
The cottage was clean and cosy with everything we needed. Could maybe do with a bit of a touch up in places but that didn't take away from our stay. It was a wonderful week and we will most definitely be back again.

The property was very clean, neat and tidy with a very comfortable bed. My husband always has difficultly settling into a new bed when we are away due to a back injury however he was very happy sleeping in this bed. The property had everything you needed and has a lovely walk in shower. It is located opposite the main house which is a B&B but set in 7 acres of grounds which you are happily allowed to walk around. There is ample parking. The friendly owners are currently working on the garden but what they have done so far is beautiful. There are lots of little hubs / nooks and arbours to sit in and admire the view. The property has a stream running through it. A very peaceful place set in Dalby Forest. There was also a hot tub but we didn’t use it but you can request to use it for a fee.The Fox & Rabbit pub is about a 20 minute walk through the forest or a 10 minute drive round. Be warned though it’s pretty steep through the forest but then on the flat to get to the pub. We didn’t venture out in the dark to do the walk! Bit too dark and dangerous for us! The visitor centre and Go Ape are about a 20 minute walk from the main house. All in all a great few days away even the weather was kind to us ?

The only criticism (if there is one )is the expensive sofa was a bit low for us but we doubled up the cushions to make it a bit higher.

Wonderful surroundings in the heart of Dalby Forest. The gardens of the house are lovely. Nice little welcome package & very helpful hosts. The cottage is directly facing the house and the garden at the back isn’t private, as it spans the adjoining cottage. But plenty of grounds to wander around in peace. All the amenities are bookable at an additional cost (hot tub, pizza oven etc).

A very peaceful and tranquil time spent in a haven located in the heart of the Dalby forest.
Kingfisher cottage is private, spacious, immaculately clean and well equipped for a most comfortable and luxurious stay.
I hadn’t quite appreciated that the cottage is set in the most magnificent six acre grounds, cleverly designed to blend in with the natural environment of the forest and offering endless scope for enjoyment as you meander through the different areas of the grounds. There are many interesting little gems and features dotted about - but you’ll have to book a stay and discover all of those for yourself!
Relax in the hot tub with stunning views, breathing in the fresh air and sweet scent of lilac whilst listening to birdsong and the running beck. A perfect place and time for resetting and recharging.
My thanks to Ian and Linda for your very kind hospitality and for a most enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Wow! I’m not often speechless but what a find this place was! The cottage was spotless, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay but the icing on the cake was the grounds the cottage was on. If you need complete relaxation this is where you’ll find it. We had planned to eat at a local pub a couple of nights but found all we wanted was the peace and tranquility of the cottage and it’s gardens and spent hours just pottering around them and sat by the lake. Dalby forest is amazing for walks and we found whatever direction you set off in you can’t go wrong and it’s beautiful.
Thank you Ian and Linda for sharing your beautiful property with us. The only downside was I never saw the deer, but I guess that’s reason to keep coming back until I do ?

Cottage was adequate, though I had to donate a corkscrew! Toaster only worked if you held the handle down until done. Plenty of cleaning materials provided though vacuum filter needs a wash as smells very doggy when using. There are lovely walks and the gardens at the main house are exceptional. No enclosed area to let dogs off lead but overall very enjoyable stay and good value for money.

What a lovely cottage and wonderful surroundings. Ian came to meet us on check in and gave an interesting insight into the area. We loved the grounds that were available for us to walk round. Lots of love and attention has been given to this estate especially to the Labyrinth area. We unfortunately were not able to use the wonderful looking hot tub area as we have a 12mth old cocker and didn’t trust him to be quiet ?. But I’m sure when we return we will be able too. The welcome basket was an additional delight and we enjoyed thoroughly. Great for us and our pup and we will be back. Made my 50th bday a memorable one. Thank you Laura, Jason and Oswald x

Absolutely beautiful location, lovely cottage and grounds! Lovely welcome from owners and very accommodating. Only thing I would say is the garden is not secure for dogs to be off lead which was a bit of a nightmare having to have them on lead all the time. All in all it was perfect

Gorgeous getaway. Hosts were great and really warm/welcoming. Lovely cottage inside and out and peaceful, quiet area. Dog was able to play in the garden with no worries (plus playing with the owners dog which he loved). Plenty of amazing waking trails and a short walk away from the visitors centre and activities (Go Ape/Forest Segway). We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend.

Great location and great base for exploring the forest and local area. Cottage was lovely and clean, and had everything you needed, including a very nice welcome basket with a few bits. The location was lovely and communication from the host was very informative. The cottage was like the pictures, however it was a bit misleading as it is two guest areas in one and the walls are very thin so we could hear everything next door were saying or listening to.

ian and linda are verylovely welcoming people! very helpful and attentive, but also very respectful of privacy. the environment is amazing the perfect escape from city life! right in the heart of dalby forest the 7 acres is more than enough to explore. the wood fire hot tub was lovely to use and the sauna facilities are great too! honestly was the perfect little break, from the facilities to the cottage, could go on forever. will definitely return. if you love the great outdoors then this is for you.

not really much bad i can say about this place, one thing i could suggest is wifi in the sauna building as we spent alot of time in the hot tub and would of been even better if we could of stuck a movie on towards the end of the evening, nonetheless, not really a complaint as it wasnt really an issue.

The cottage was a perfect size for 2 people and right in the middle of Dalby Forest.

We were unfortunately disappointed as after booking we were told we had to pay an extra £10 for the hot tub. It should be made clear access to the hot tub is an additional payment. It is also a walk away from Kingfisher cottage which isn’t explained on booking so for this reason we ended up not using it.

In regards to the cottage, it’s cleanliness especially during a time of covid was disappointing. There were dog hairs on the sofa and lounge rug, the bathroom wasn’t what we would expect on arrival at a stay and there were spatulas with old dried food on them.

Whilst there, three bulbs in the lounge were out and a fuse tripped a few times turning the lights off. On on the first full day there the hot water immersion heater stopped working so we had to use a ‘boost’ button for hot water.

As stated the location and surroundings is beautiful and the welcome basket of bread, eggs, marmalade is a nice touch but unfortunately we wouldn’t stay again.

We had a lovely short break away at kingfisher cottage. Such a gorgeous location.
*Just be aware that directions are not clear from the sat nav (make sure you follow forest drive route into Dalby forest)
*Also be aware that you are expected to pay extra to use the hot tub , bbq, pizza oven, stargaze facility etc.
*The property is also not detached as it seems from the photos (The walls were thin into next doors and we could hear them all evening/night) *the hot tub is a short walk away at another building.

The cottage is amazing , very cosy , equipped with everything we needed, warm and comfortable bed , the view of the forest was amazing and the sky was wonderful, Ian and his wife was adorable as well, nothing to say about it unless cleanings, my cottage was not very cleaned before my check in and it made me I little disappointed for the price we paid but I’m sure Ian will do some improvement and sort it out.

Lovely spacious and clean cottage with all the utilities you'd need. Ian is an amazing and warm host. The cottage is placed in a nice and peaceful location...just what you need when you're looking to get a break from all the hustle and bustle of daily life! Hot tub was the cherry on top!

24/10/2021

A beautiful cottage set in an idyllic location. The cottage was super cosy and had everything you needed - including a welcome basket of bread/eggs etc. The surrounding garden/stream was just lovely to be able to walk our 5 month puppy around. Ian was very helpful and accommodating - especially in lighting and heating the wood fired hottub for us. Although it’s “shared” we had private use of it for the two nights we stayed which was great. It’s a short walk from the cottage so there’s a room/toilets nearby to get changed in etc. The only downside was that we had to pay an extra £10 to use the hottub (there were also additional charges for other things like the pizza oven etc but we didn’t use these). We took our bikes with us to use in the forest and There was a secure bike store room for us to store them in which was brilliant. Overall it was a fantastic stay I would definitely love to go back again! ??

This accommodation is set in a most beautiful, quiet and peaceful valley within dalby forest . It was just what we needed.
Kingfisher cottage was clean and homely. It had all we needed.
It is worth noting that the accommodation is arranged for adults. There is a most clear and deep pond and beck that runs through the large garden so it would be a great concern for anyone with children.
We had a marvellous stay and felt totally relaxed and rejuvenated

A homely, comfortable cottage in idyllic, relaxing surroundings. Helpful when we needed assistance but left us alone when we didn’t.

Fantastic location in Dalby Forest. Comfortable and stylish accommodation. Perfect base for exploring this corner of North Yorkshire which has an incredible amount to see and do. We particularly enjoyed walking from the cottage to Bridestones and later, walking around the adjacent lake and photography exhibition in the evening once the visitors had left for the day - very special. Ian was very friendly and accommodating. Very quiet at night - perfect for a good night's sleep. Do make sure you follow the accommodation directions via Forest Drive and not your vehicle satnav which would prefer to take you off roading!!
