Known as the jewel in the heart of North Yorkshire, Richmond is a market town with plenty of charm. Despite the many cafes, bistros, restaurants, pubs and bars, little has actually changed in Richmond throughout the centuries. There is plenty of history for you to discover. Enjoy a live show at The Georgian Theatre, which is actually the oldest theatre in Europe. Look out of the bedroom windows you’ll see the magnificent Richmond Castle. An interactive museum was recently added to the site so it’s definitely worth a visit!
This gorgeous Old Victorian Railway Station has been given a new lease of life with a mix of artisan shops, a cinema, an art gallery and a café bar. You can sample beer brewed in house from Richmond Brewing company. The café bar also won the best café in the Herriot Awards recently so you’re in for a real treat.

Great stay

The unexpected non refunable damage waiver fees that were asked to be paid in order to recive the key code was a little unexpected and felt a little cheeky having gone so far with the booking. It wouldnt have been a problem if it was stated before but there was no fore warning about it.
The place its self was amazing and the location was so breath taking and peaceful next to the church with sheep outside of the kichen window.
The fire alarms had not been changed for a while so meant both the one in the living room and the kichen were constantly beeping throughout the night this was a massive problem as i had to stand on the kitchen chair to pull the battery out at 2 in the morning.
Over all apart from the damage waiver and the alarms it was a very pleasant time and the local pub was so classy. Burnt pizzas but spot on staff and decoration so recommended having visit there.
Thanks

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location

The location is very nice and peaceful, and you can go on a lovely walk nearby. However, for the price (118+ pounds per night) I expected the house to be in a better condition.
The place was too dirty and had some issues. The bedroom windows don't open, there was someone else's hair on the sheets in one room and a dead moth on the sheets in the second room. A pistachio shell on the floor. Dead bugs and insects everywhere (kitchen and bedroom). All windows were so dusty and dirty. The bathroom floor was visibly dusty and there were clumps of someone's hair on it. I have taken pictures of all the above.
For a place that charged 60 pounds as a cleaning fee, and 25 pounds as a waiver to cover damages, this is utterly unacceptable. I would very much like to have my money back.
Also, Host & Stay were very unresponsive to both texts and calls, and I was stood in front of the property with my luggage for about an hour trying to get a hold of them.

Clean tidy and comfortable in a lovely location

The front door is very stiff, there were loads of leaflets piled up behind the door made it feel like no one had been in for ages. You cannot do anything about the weather but the house was very cold and perhaps if some heating had been put on before our arrival it would not have been more comfortable by the time it warmed up we had gone to bed.

The village was lovely Aldbrough st John is a lovely a beautiful place and the cottage itself is beautiful. Just all the faults and bad bits it ruined it. The wall next to it was a lovely view of the sheep field who had lambs, and they were cute, and them the church next door was a nice view. The gardens was really nice with planty of flowers and grass. Really pretty. I can imagine in summer it will be really nice. The little shed out backk with the cocktail bar was nice too with a wall unit, a few posh glasses and a book about cocktails was cool, but it had a very cold bean bag. And its its heated too. When you turn it on. The beds were extremely comfortable, and warm. So 1 plus. One thing though it would have been nice to have a couple of seats to take outside as we smoke, but the wall was ok to sit on except when it rained. It was just the insurance(waiver) which ruined it and the fact everything I took to eat was to be cooked on a hon which didnt work.

Just getting the keys from a lockbox about 7 inches off the flooor was extremely hard. It was too low and could hardly see the numbers. Unlocked the door, and it was wedged shut, so had to put a bit of weight on it to open. and it was very squeaky. Putting the heating on was easy, but i was asked by the host not to put the heating over 20c, but with the cold and wind the house was still cold, as the house is draughty. It is an 1877 cottage after all. But it was minus oovernight, and 20c wasnt enough to keep the house warm. The hob didnt work. The TV needed updating, and one of the wondows in the kitchen which looks onto the field with sheep, the double glazing was blown, so couldnt see out. And the winow was loclked open, but it was too far to reach to shut it. The bathroom was freezing though, with just a little blower on the wall for heat, which did not a lot. And the path going into the place outside is extremely slippy when wet. My husband fell over using his crutches. Its not a place for elderly or disabled, as the walk from the bedroom to the toilet is right through the place. And the carpet rod going into the sitting room isnt fastened down. I was scared to do anything because I had to pay a waiver (insurance ) before I was allowed any details about the place. Another £25. I never knew about it as I only checked the confimation email and never saw any other messages. All my fault for not checking, and only got the keylock number 30 minutes before we left to go on holiday. It made me unconfortable touch anything incase I broke anyhing, even though Ive nver broke anything before. Then got orders to leave the place exactly the same as I found it, But charged £60 for a cleaning fee still!!! For £320 it was not worth the money. The cute old chairs in the kitchen I was scare of sitting on as I am slightly overweight. Plus theres creepy crawlies in the cleaning cupboard, which I understand, but they were all in the mop, so freaked me out a bit.

A great cottage with plenty of space. Well equipped kitchen and a good sized bathroom. Really nice local walks and good access to the surrounding area. The local pub was very welcoming and only 5 minutes walk.

The location was stunning with beautiful surroundings, perfect for walking the dogs.
The cottage however has some flaws.
It is very difficult to find, and due to the location there is no signal to use the guidebook, it would of been helpful to know about the signal issues before hand so we could of downloaded it.
on arrival the hallway and entrance mat was soaking wet, we had to mop it up.
the cottage smelt musty, particularly in the bathroom. it was quite dusty with hair about, including in the beds.
there was also what looked like blood stain on the spare bed sheets.
the kitchen utensils could do with a good clean, alot of them where sticky.
