The Space
Lop Hall is brimming with character and has traditional interiors throughout. The property has a spacious living room which is the real hub of the cottage. With two comfy sofas, a flat screen TV with Firestick, and a log burning fireplace, this is the perfect spot to relax after a busy day exploring the North York Moors National Park. Beautifully styled, you’ll find patterned cushions and colourful furnishings throughout the space.

Fully equipped for self-catering stays, the shaker style kitchen has everything you’ll need to prepare home cooked meals. The kitchen also has a dishwasher and the cottage boasts a washing machine so it’s ideal for longer staycations.

Between the living room and kitchen is the dining area which includes a traditional wooden table with plenty of seating so you can enjoy meals here with the rest of your party. The space also acts as a snug room and you’ll find an abundance of books and games within the space.

Lop Hall has three cosy bedrooms on the first floor. The master bedroom is a tranquil king size room with an en suite shower room. The second bedroom is also a king.

In the final room, you’ll find single bunk beds along with a secret reading nook which is a great bonus to guests staying with young children.

Each bedroom has premium bed linens and bedding to ensure you have a comfortable night’s sleep.

The main bathroom can also be found on the first floor. Recently refurbished with brand new fittings, there is a bathtub with a handheld shower, WC and wash basin in this space.

Lop Hall sits within an enclosed wild garden. The cottage boasts an outdoor seating area within an immaculate courtyard, along with a shed which can be used for storage. An additional spacious patio can also be found at Lop Hall, again with ample seating for all guests. You’ll certainly feel at one with nature during your stay as there is wildlife in abundance around the property so whether sat in the garden or in the property itself, you can enjoy views of Danby Dale and beyond.

Neighborhood
If you’re looking for a relaxing break, you’ll get the best of both worlds when staying in Danby. This quaint village is perfect for walks and picnics and Lop Hall is only a short walk from the centre of the village where you can find a bakers, cafe, a small community-run shop and a pub.

Head to Danby Moors Centre and you’ll find a lovely mile-long walk over the moorland. Brilliant for families, the centre is also home to an outdoor play area, a fascinating museum, a cafe and art gallery.

In Ainthorpe, a short walk away, the Fox & Hounds pub is highly recommended for food and a friendly atmosphere.

The adjacent village of Castleton, a five-minute drive from Danby, is where you’ll find a supermarket, individual shops and a pub.

Your nearest seaside town is the charming Victorian resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Here you’ll find restaurants, cafes, bars and independent shops. Take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the promenade and you’ll arrive at the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. The long sandy shores are overlooked by colourful boutique beach huts and high cliffs tower in the distance.

Danby is located 16 miles from the seaside town of Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast. Popular for its Blue Flag West Cliff beach and promenade, the whole family can enjoy a day on the golden sands. Head to Pier Road, you’ll find fun arcades and plenty of fish restaurants where you can sample the catch of the day.

The other side of Whitby is full of narrow, medieval streets dotted with boutiques and pubs. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

The market town of Guisborough can be found ten miles away. In the centre of the town, you’ll find a charming, cobbled high street which is lined with shops, cafes and pubs. Visit the English Heritage site of Gisborough Priory which dates back to the 12th century. Here you’ll find the dramatic skeleton of the 14th century church's east and outstanding Gothic architecture.

This is a lovely cottage in a fantastic location. It's been very stylishly decorated and was perfect for our requirements as a base for walking and a very comfortable place to eat, drink, chat and relax. Special mentions for the views and the very comfortable beds. There are a few very minor improvements needed to earn it 5 stars on all counts but these could (and hopefully will be) very easily resolved. I'm communicating that feedback directly. Anyway - very highly recommended and I hope to return.

A wonderful cottage amid beautiful scenery - we loved our week here and will definitely come back. It's cosy and warm and packed with books and games. Comfy sofas and beds, and everything was very clean and well looked-after. The immediate area is stunning - you can walk straight from the door for miles over peaceful moorland, often without seeing another soul. Or you can wander down the hill into Danby for cake at the cafe, shopping at the Botton health food shop next to the cafe, and a trip to the gallery at the moors centre. Highly recommended.

Details from the hosts was plentiful and informative and getting entry was really easy. The location was perfect in terms of the views and if you want peace and quiet. The Kitchen was modern with good equipment. Bathrooms were modern and clean. Good size living rooms. Great idea of a sensor light switch at the top of the stairs.

The living room, dining room and the bedrooms are basic and rustic in appearance and quality of furniture, which is not what we expected. Reported a problem about the lack of hot water from the kitchen tap but heard nothing back. The driveway vegetation needs cutting back. Neither logs nor kindling provided to light the wood burner, (only between Nov and March).

The location was absolutely perfect for the wedding we were attending at Danby castle barn. Lovely and cosy with good social space. Kindly provided a travel cot and high chair which was greatly appreciated. Regular / quick messages from the host through booking.com and clear instructions throughout the property.

All very minor details but feel they add to the over cleanliness feeling of the property:
- no tea towels provided
- in bunk bed room we noticed a brown stain on the carpet near the bottom bed with an unpleasant smell - think it had been cleaned before but was lingering
- no bins in the bathrooms

Great place in a good location. Although people should be made aware of the added cost of insurance .
Overall the place was really nice, clean and had all amenities that we needed.

Lop Hall is a very nice home in a beautiful setting. I would likely have given it 5 stars but was frustrated by the experience with Host & Stay.
One week before arrival, when it was too late to get all our money back, I received a message that I had to pay for additional insurance before I would receive property access. It turns out this insurance also only covers damage reported during the stay - not damage identified after a guest leaves. Upon reviewing the listing I see that the additional fees are mentioned near the bottom of the lengthy property description. I suspect most renters will not notice this. The amount of money is not significant but I felt like I was being scammed. Extra fees should be clear and people should be notified early enough to change plans.
Host & Stay sent me a Google maps link to use that directs to the wrong location. To get written directions I had to navigate to the online guide, which was difficult to do when already in a remote location.

Lop Hall is an idyllic, clean cottage, full of character and every comfort. The setting, right on the moors with rabbits running around the garden and sheep nosing around the cars, is beautiful. But then again a short walk takes you to the village and a short drive to the coast.

L’emplacement, la vue magnifique sur la lande, le calme ; très bon équipement.

Beaucoup de poussière !! Odeur de renfermé tenace malgré une aération quasi en continu. Gite déconseillé aux personnes allergiques aux acariens.

Really lovely cottage to stay in with family. Local village is lovely and walkable, the views of the moors are incredible. Very quiet and private, and brillantly located for beaches, towns, activities etc (all 1/2 hour drive or less)

The only noise is from the local wildlife which is a pleasant change from the sound of traffic. Beautiful scenery. Well equipped, very clean on arrival. Nice pub, farm type shop and bakery in the village( the bacon sandwiches are a must!) We had a great time exploring the local area.

Character filled and views

Nothing but co-ordinates are wrong and location of 42 on goggle maps is wrong! Make sure you read the directions with regard the location of the car park/lookout on the left before entering Danby coming from the north.

Cosy cottage tucked away in the beautiful Cleveland hill. A beautiful property that unfortunately has really been let down by the hosts.
On arrival we were greeted by a dysfunctional kitchen (hobs not working) and no log fire (no wood) . I understand that amenites can have issues however, what is done to address this by the hosts is my concern.
I immediately raised these issues (particularly hob issue) with the hosts and their response was, we aren't willing to cover meal expenditure for the period effected and we shall send a technician out the following day to investigate. This never happened and we left the place on our departure date with the non-operational amenities the way we arrived.
This was only resolved with Airbnb support intervention who really stepped up and took our complain seriously.
Our family holiday ruined and I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to recommend Host & Stay as a host.
Lastly, be careful not to fall into the hidden charges applied - read description

Beautiful scenery and lovely house.

WiFi was very intermittent and at multiple times just would not work leaving us with no signal as it was as very remote. Many of the contacts in the book were out of date. Initially we were told the admin fee for the deposit would be refunded as there was no mention of it in the booking. This has since changed but they would not honour the refund of the admin fee even though they said they would. Overall the person we messaged to here rude and left a bad taste in our mouth to what could have been a lovely stay as the house was lovely.

Absolutely beautiful scenery and location. We felt so relaxed and rested sat by the fire looking across the moors. We enjoyed a moorland walk everyday and loved coming back to the cosy cottage in a private setting. The kids loves their bedroom and many and adventure was had by them. Perfect lo action to celebrate my mums birthday before we head back to Australia !

What a wonderful house! So well equipped with kitchen things, toys, books and home comforts. We had such a lovely week. The views from the house are amazing and just hanging out there is a joy. We also found it very easy to get to both the coast and the moors. The location was excellent for family activities and the bakery, shop and pub all in walking distance was an added bonus. Can't wait to go back!
