Instagrammable Destinations in Yorkshire

Friday 19th August, 2022 by hs-admin

Instant photo sharing has captured the nation’s heart in the form of Instagram and, if you love filling your feeds with picture perfect landscapes or candid selfies with jaw-dropping backdrops, then Yorkshire is the place to be.

So, grab your phone, choose your best pose and head down to these Insta-worthy spots to start snapping.

York Shambles

Starting off our list with one of the most popular spots in York, if not all of Yorkshire, is The Shambles. This hot spot is undoubtedly one of the most renowned and Instagrammed street in the UK. It is particularly unusual because of it’s cobbled streets and the original Elizabethan structures. This has long been considered the real-life inspiration for Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley.

Get there early on a Sunday morning (between 7.30am and 9am) to get the perfect picture – you may even be so lucky to have no one else in the background!

Leeds County Arcade

Without a doubt, County Arcade in Leeds Victoria Quarter is the ideal location for an Instagram photo in the city. The marble columns and golden mosaics throughout create a beautiful backdrop for your images.

Head down early Sunday morning when the arcade is accessible but shops haven’t opened. There will be no hustle and bustle so it will be the perfect time for you to grab a candid shot!

Whitby Streets

With it’s cluster of fishermen’s cottages from the 18th century, winding cobbled streets and host of independent retailers and coffee shops, Whitby has all the makings for an ideal Instagram backdrop.  If you fancy going above and beyond, why not climb to the top of the town’s 199 steps as it is the prime location for a sunset snap. It will definitely be worth the hike.

Make your way down in the late afternoon to take in the magic and get that Instagram golden sunset as it reflects off Whitby’s terracotta rooftops.

Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey, together with the town of Whitby itself, makes for a particularly outstanding photo opportunity. You probably already know that Bram Stoker’s Dracula was inspired by the magnificent Gothic ruins, which are absolutely worth a visit. The Abbey is a striking subject, especially around dawn when the early light gives the ruins a slight golden colour.

This place is perfect for a casual picnic selfie or to capture the morning sunrise behind the Abbey.

Flamborough Cliffs

The Flamborough Cliffs nature reserve, which is owned by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is located to the north and east of North Landing’s beach. The rugged bays and cave networks are smaller than the 400-foot sheer walls of adjacent Bempton, however, they are still an equally fascinating area to explore and capture on your phone. On a sunny day, the bay’s waters will change to a variety of tropical-looking blues and greens, making it the best place to snap away.

Make sure to get to this location early in the day for the best panoramic photos without other onlookers photobombing your pictures.
