Property Details

The Space
Aptly named, Castle View has year-round views of the Unesco World Heritage Durham Castle.

The property has a spacious kitchen diner. Fully equipped for self-catering stays, the kitchen has modern appliances and cookware. The dining area includes a dining table with six chairs.

Outside there is a beautifully landscaped two-tier garden with luxurious, comfortable seating. You’ll also have access to a barbeque and fire pit, as well as an outdoor dining table.

Head to the first floor and you’ll find a modern living room with two comfy sofas and a balcony making it the ideal place to unwind and enjoy the fresh air with your loved ones. Wooden flooring, a neutral wall colour scheme and statement blue curtains make this a really cosy place to relax.

The house is home to three bedrooms and a family bathroom. The first bedroom has a comfortable queen bed along with an ensuite shower room. The second room has a king-size bed and the third bedroom has another queen bed.

The family bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower, WC and basin.

Neighborhood
Castle View is located a short 5-minute walk from Durham Cathedral and the city centre. Named ‘One of the Best Cities in the World to Visit in 2020’ by The Independent and voted ‘The Best City in the UK’ by Condé Nast’s traveller magazine readers, the beautiful city is packed with history and charm.

It has the perfect blend of mediaeval heritage and a modern, vibrant feel. The cobbled streets are peppered with restaurants, bars, pubs and shops. Take a leisurely stroll near the River Wear which continues on past Durham Cathedral and the 900 year old Durham Castle.

Durham has plenty of history within its walls. One of the most spectacular historic sites is Durham Cathedral. Constructed between 1103 and 1133, this towering building is a shining example of Norman architecture. The cathedral is now the oldest surviving building with a stone vaulted ceiling of such a large scale.

Getting Around
The centre of Durham is a short 5-minute walk from Castle View.

Durham train station is 25-minutes away on foot so nearby towns and cities can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Durham. Hop on the Arriva 6 route to visit Barnard Castle or the number 22 which travels through Seaham and Sunderland.

This is a lovely home, beautifully decorated, very well appointed, and spotlessly clean. There is a great view of the castle, and it is very close to the centre of town. I recommend it very highly! Thank you to the hosts for a wonderful stay!

Clean, comfortable and well located. Easy to walk into the City

Not happy with the compulsory insurance: this should have been stated at the booking stage

The kitchen was a good size and had everything we needed for a short 2 night stay.
The beds were very comfortable and the house felt spacious as there were plenty of rooms.

We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The house was immaculate and pristine, and the host included extras such as body wash, shampoo, milk, tea, coffee etc. I would definitely recommend the AirBnB to amply and friends and will stay here again when in the area.
Thank you for an enjoyable visit and your attention to detail.

Well located in a quiet close, this end of terrace compact new-build house has a quiet garden, its own private parking space, and a view of the castle keep at University College Durham.
The house was well appointed and the kitchen on the ground floor well equipped with a gas cooker and electric oven as well as microwave, dishwasher (and washing machine that we did not use) as well as a dining table which comfortably seated six.
The family bathroom (shower over tub) on the second floor was between two double bedrooms and the master bedroom on the first floor opposite the living area had a small ensuite shower room. There was also a visitor WC on the ground floor. All were clean with soap and shampoo and clean towels provided.
The two level patio garden had ample seating though it was a little too cold and windy for us to use it meaningfully. The living room and one bedroom have internet TVs.

Nice modern property, liked the books and artwork,
Handy for the cathedral and town. Nice view of castle

Full length mirror would have been handy as we were going to my daughter’s wedding .
1st floor bedroom a little small

Thank you so much to Charlie from Host & Stay for the great communication throughout the visit. We found the Airbnb to be clean, comfortable, and even more spacious than we expected. The large back patio was a fantastic feature, and we got lots of sunshine during which to enjoy it!

A brilliant stay at castle view. The house felt like home and was pristine. Host and stay answered all enquiries before staying and were in contact during the stay to ensure we had all of the information we needed. Would highly recommend this property to anyone who is visiting Durham.

We enjoyed our time in lovely Durham and this house was perfect for us. It was conveniently located near the town and restaurants. The back garden was lovely. Thanks to the owner!

We weren’t provided breakfast so can’t comment. Beds were very conmfortable, good fasciitis in house.

Upstairs back bedroom was cold. When we arrived the radiator was not on, we had to Fitflop a lot with it to try and get heat out of it. Thankfully one of our party likes being cooler!
Lack of mirrors! No mirror in en-suite, and bedroom only had a very small stand mirror which you couldn’t see your whole face in. The only adequate mirror was in the downstairs toilet. Thankfully we had no men with us who needed to shave. Other places we have stayed in have had small welcome pack, ie small milk and butter, bread, coffee &tea. Nothing special but has been most welcome. Also small range of kitchen essentials, ie sugar, herbs, oil would have been very helpful.

Lovely house in a great position to see all the places of interest in Durham.
The house was very clean and tidy. We stayed just two nights but everything worked and we were cosey even though it was very cold outside. Silly little thing but could do with mirrors in bathrooms. Very comfortable to sleep and has all the main facilities of modern day living. I would be very happy to stay again.

We stayed in a comfortable, well equipped and fairly spacious property within walking distance of Durham town centre. The property has lovely views and can sleep up to 6 people comfortably. The property is clean and well presented, and the owner has made the property a lovely place to stay with books and other pamphlets that are useful to explore the area. The only areas for improvement is that some of the doors needed some oil to stop the squeaking, and more mirrors are needed in the bathrooms. Otherwise we would happily stay at the property again, and would recommend it without hesitation.

The house was very nice and big and at a great location (walking distance to Durham), but please beware before booking this via Airbnb that the host is a company and not a person and they charge either a deposit or a deposit waiver outside of airbnb (which is not allowed with Airbnb). The communication was also not really personal like we are used to with Airbnb, it was a different person from the company every time. Furthermore we were missing any personal touches to the house, for example there were hardly any mirrors (only one in the toilet on ground floor but none in the bathrooms) and although there was a huge collection of DVDs, there was no DVD player. It did not feel like the house was 'being lived in'.

Lovely place to stay, unusual to find a good sized house in the centre of the city with parking. Hosts were excellent throughout.

This was the most comfortable place we stayed in the UK. The instruction manual left by the hosts was exactly what I needed at the other places, and didn’t get.
And let’s admit it shamelessly. After walking from coast to coast, that plush, thick carpet was heaven to our tired feet!
Thank you for the maps on the wall, plethora of kitchen supplies and tap instructions for jet lagged brains temporarily missing a few IQ points.

Great location while we visited from the States. Only thing we missed was a spatula for cooking breakfast! If we ever return to England we will for sure stay again.

Beautiful place, new, clean, nicely decorated. Note this is not a direct Airbnb listing. We recommend researching additional Host&Stay rules, fees re: what else you will need to pay to a different company. Would have loved basic cooking oil, spices. Would have appreciated shampoo in both bathrooms. Bit far from town. Enjoyed perusing extensive dvd selection to watch something… but there is no dvd player. Dvds only for decoration. Strange! Note there’s no king sized bed as listed. Naively, thought Host&Stay listing wouldn’t make much difference, but it did. They have additional fees for third party insurance that are not listed. The third party insurance company could not be paid through Airbnb, asked for our credit card info separately, requests for copies of utility bills, bank statements were concerning. Home is lovely, could be 5 stars, but research Host&Stay, if you haven’t dealt with them before.A direct Airbnb listing has a much easier process with no hidden fees or extra steps.

Great place. Very clean. Accurate photos. Things to improve: not enough closet space and a bit overpriced.

The house is well located for the city centre, an easy 10 minute walk. Very comfortable and well equipped with the exception of mirrors - a mirror in the upstairs bathrooms would be great.

We liked everything about the house with the exception mentioned above - the lack of mirrors - otherwise you could't fault it

We originally booked 4 nights here and ended up extending to double that. It's a fabulous location--nice walking distance into the city center and out to the countryside. The neighborhood is very quiet and the estate is quite newly built. Lots of stairs, of course, with everything except the kitchen up one or two flights. Mostly well-equipped, though side tables in bedrooms and rubbish bins in bathrooms would have been good additions. Will happily stay here again on future trips.

Excellent accommodation experience. It only takes 15 minutes walk to city center. Will choose castle view again when we visit Durham next time .
