Relax on the blue velvet sofa and turn on the flat screen TV to enjoy a quiet evening in. Shaker in style, the light grey kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need to prepare meals easily. The dining area features a rustic style round dining table and two matching chairs.

Neighborhood
Maggie’s is located in the village of Wall in the high uplands of Northumberland. If you’re looking for a relaxing retreat in the countryside, this is the ideal place. Steeped in history, the village takes its name from the nearby Hadrian’s Wall which runs close to the Northumberland National Park.

Wall is also close to the charming town of Hexham which was voted England’s favourite market town by Country Life magazine. With great shopping facilities, local inns, restaurants and a buzzing arts scene, there will be plenty for you to discover. If you’re interested in history, head to Hexham Abbey which dates back to 674. For those who want a fun day out, Hexham has its own racecourse where you can enjoy the races and incredible views of the rolling countryside too.

Getting Around
The nearby town of Hexham is roughly a 10 minute drive from the cottage. Hexham has plenty of bus routes including trips to Newcastle and the Metro Centre. There is a bus stop in Wall which travels through to Hexham so you can get there easily.

The nearest train station is Hexham which has routes from Newcastle, Carlisle and Sunderland.

A gem of a cottage - really well equipped and with everything we needed for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The cottage is in a beautiful setting opposite the village green with some lovely walks from the door to parts of Hadrians’s Wall and only a short drive from Hexham. We arrived after a particularly difficult drive in heavy rain and to relax and enjoy your welcome pack was particularly appreciated! Many thanks!

Maggie’s was a lovely cottage in a small quiet hamlet…superbly equipped and exceedingly comfortable. Everything that was provided was of the highest quality…from bedding to dining with an excellent guide to the cottage and so much good information. All of this was completed with a good welcome hamper and an outstanding log burner with a plentiful supply of logs. Thank for the use of your delightful cottage.

It was so clean, and all furnishings and equipment were pristine. Great bed, bedding and towels. Wonderful little, top quality, welcome pack was there for us on arrival. Tea/coffee/toiletries/washing up etc available too. It was even sunny for the 5 days. I will go again for sure!

Nothing I didn't like

The owners of the cost cottage kindly prepared a welcome hamper which was so sweet! The info pack was filled with things to do and books to read (we already had walks planned but perfect for someone that isn't sure, too). So peaceful to sleep at night. The log burner was perfect and much needed after a long Hadrian's wall work. I loved the photographs of the local attractions on the walls. A lot of care has gone into this property and it worked seamlessly. A hidden gem and perfect for a couple's or a single person's retreat. Highly recommend to anyone.
We did travel up at night, after eating in Alnwick and ended up asking for help as it was a little hard to spot in the dark (once we saw the fence, we knew we were there!). This was the closest thing to an issue we had - which really wasn't an issue because we got in (we just probably looks hilarious driving in circles). I have nothing negative to say!
Thank you for everything, it was perfect.

Fantastic stay at Maggie’s. Beautiful cottage, everything provided that you need. Quality furniture and finishings. Ideal location, close enough to Hexham but within a peaceful village. Friendly hosts available if you need anything and the welcome basket is a lovely touch. All in all a wonderful break and I will be back.

Great location for Roman history, walks and countryside. Really well maintained cottage with parking. We went out in the car each day for our trips so cannot speak to walkable local shops etc but did notice a hotel/restaurant in the village and plenty in Hexham. The bed was so comfortable!
We found issues with the WiFi on occasions but we didn’t really need it luckily.
Would definitely recommend and we would stay again.

Our stay was perfect! I’m quite fussy about where we stay and I cannot fault this cottage in any way, every tiny detail had been thought about which made our stay so much more enjoyable. The cottage was immaculately clean and felt so cosy and homely, the welcome basket was a lovely touch and we loved the fact that there was free wood to use for the log burner! We will definitely be back, it was one of our favourite weekends away we’ve ever had!

We loved our time at Maggie’s and would recommend to everyone. The cottage was so welcoming and inviting with lots of modern touches to make life comfortable and easy whilst still preserving the original character. Everything was pristine and exactly as described. The welcome pack was such a lovely and very appreciated touch. They really had thought of everything.
The location is great for exploring Northumberland with so much to do around you.
The only issue we had was finding the cottage as the link we were sent lead us to another street in the opposite side of the property. We used the 3 words used in a previous review and had no issues after that.
We will definitely be back to stay at Maggie’s again.

All but one issue was very good- situation, privacy, heating, parking etc. Greeting by the owner on one of the days and of course the welcome pack was very much appreciated. In fact with the reservation below the rest was excellent.

We found the size of china/glasses ( very thin glass too)exceptionally over large to use for normal portions/drink, or the dishwasher, and, as clearly meant for two only as stipulated, the two or four of crockery of each provided was also therefore no use for using the dishwasher provided as a load.

Great location, quiet, well equipped

All great could have benefitted from a quick swish round with a duster lot of spiders and webs removed 10. I’m not bothered other half dislikes spiders. I know it’s and old building and spiders can pop up from nowhere but some of these had been there a while. Would stop me booking again and hopefully useful feedback. Thanks for a nice stay

A lovely cottage feel with a very modern interior, in a beautiful quiet village. This beautiful refurbishment has everything you need as a great place to get away and relax in the Northumberland countryside, and it's the perfect location.

The entire cottage was very clean and tidy, with great interior design; the perfect base to explore the surrounding area. The little finishing touches like milk in the fridge and coffee made the cottage feel very welcoming. We'll definitely be going back to visit again!

It was Easter, so we even got a chocolate rabbit which made us feel at home and helped us relax. We would thoroughly recommend for a weekend away!

The directions to find the cottage didn't need to be as complicated as it was very easy to find. We didn't realise the key safe was in the porch, so we spent a few minutes looking for that. Otherwise it was perfect.

Very comfortable and well equipped place in a pretty location. Loads to do around but being in staggering distance from Hjem was the big attraction for us. ( 3 hour meal, 4 hours to sleep it off! ) There’s a nice 45 min walk up the hill and back down to The Chare.

Chris

18/07/2022

We stayed with our little one for a long weekend to see Hadrian‘s Wall. The location is superb there is even a section of the wall literally a minutes drive away the town is even named after the wall.

Upon arrival we did have a very slight mishap whereas the management company forgot to inform the hosts of our booking presumably because it was very much last minute so the cottage was unprepared for our arrival. However the hosts themselves were extremely apologetic and bent over backwards to have the place cleaned within the hour and offered to pay for our dinner that evening at the local pub and were extremely generous and friendly, we couldn’t of asked for better service.

We did also struggle a bit to find the location as the GPS coordinates given by the management company actually point to the road on the other side of the apartment and pointing to “town wells close” the actual apartment is on the road behind. Travel up chapels Lane and take the first right or if you are tech savvy and use what3words ///executive.curry.fats will take you straight to the door step.

Overall the cottage is gorgeous and would recommend again in a heartbeat! It’s a wonderful base to discover the north!

What an absolute gem in Northumberland! We were so pleased with Maggie's. The cottage was just the right size for the two of us. The owners have thought of everything and left clear information and a nice welcome basket for our arrival. The bed was comfortable, the shower excellent, and just as important, the sofa was great (so many aren't very comfy in rentals--this one was!). We were in the middle of a several week trip, so we were happy to have a washing machine available to do laundry. While we didn't dine at Hjem at the Hadrian Hotel, the only place for a drink or meal within walking distance from the cottage, we did sit at the pretty bar there. We had read that it's not like a pub and really active, so since we knew dinner was seated at 7, so we went around 6 when we knew people would be coming in before dinner so weren't the only ones in the bar. I think after that, you might be on your own. Lots of things to do nearby, and the owners have left lots of information so you can choose. We were so impressed with Maggie's and highly recommend it.

Maggie’s is a great place to stay. The cottage is very well equipped with fully fitted kitchen, comfortable bed and an excellent shower. It also has a washing machine in a separate outhouse / drying room. It is situated looking out at the green in the lovely, peaceful village of Wall, which is close to Hadrian’s Wall. Great walks around in beautiful countryside yet less than 45 minutes to the coast at Whitley Bay if you need some sea air. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. We would love to come back again.

My boyfriend and I had a really fantastic long weekend at Maggie's! We arrived to a very generous welcome basket, and the apartment was warm and inviting, all done to a high standard. There is an extensive Kitch-Living area, comfortable bedroom, and a clean and modern bathroom (with very high pressure shower!). The whole place is fantastically located right in the heart of lots of historical features, with aspects of Hadrian's Wall only a short drive away. If, like us, you go out of peak season then it's worth checking ahead of time what's open, but even in January we had loads to see and do this weekend. Thank you for the lovely stay!

It's very quiet, no shops, but there is a Michelin star restaurant and a pub attached to it which also serves food if you're not wanting to travel. There is multiple lovely towns and villages close by including Hexham and Corbridge, and you are within 10 minutes of many of Hadrian's Wall attractions. There is also a part of Hadrian's Wall within walking distance of the property as well as the Hadrians Wall path. A great base for exploring Northumberland.
