We had a great stay in the lovely cottage. Very roomy with nice rustic / vintage decor that suits the cottage just perfect. The location is perfect to explore Pickering. Has everything you could need! The garden is very nice to sit out.
We hope to return again.
How cool would it be if the downstairs dining table was a pool table too!

Had a little problem with getting access for the first time, we didn't know it was an electrical code on the front door, we rang up the office and the lady was very helpful.
I would suggest to chop the garden down and maybe put some paving / decking at the top of the garden. Then you could sit there in the afternoon sun. It is a very nice, spacious garden and that would make it even better!
The outdoor sitting area could do with pressure washed or something, it smells abit of dog wee when the suns out.
No tea towels or we just couldn't find em.

Within walking distance of Pickering, that's the best that can be said about it.

It was damp, musty smell, wallpaper hanging off the walls, curtains broken, walls marked, plugs broken, outside the garden seating was covered in mould and dirty. By main road through Pickering with traffic noise. Still awaiting full refund promised by Host and Stay weeks ago who have stopped responding to calls.

The facilities were excellent. Very clean and well organised. Very comfy bed. Tastefully decorated in keeping with the age of the property. It was warm with plenty of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped. Did I mention how comfy the bed was? Despite being on a busy road it was quiet inside and in the lovely courtyard garden.

N/A

The cottage was lovely, I can’t fault the house. It was well positioned, clean and spacious. HOWEVER! The property is managed by a company called Host and Stay. Host and Stay then use an insurance provider for a damage deposit called superhog. To stay in this cottage you have to either pay a £250 refundable deposit or a £25 waiver fee which is arranged by Superhog.
I paid the waiver fee and I was charged twice. When I requested the money back all my emails were ignored.
I strongly advise you to research the reputation of Superhog on trustpilot. They are not trustworthy.
It was only after countless emails to superhog, host and stay and finally going back to Airbnb and a threat of the financial Ombudsman was my refund finally paid. I raised my concerns for the insurance to host and stay but I was told they have no issues with the company.
Because of the association with Superhog I would never stay in a host and stay property again.

Very spacious house with lots of room for two kids, two adults, the dog and even lots of bags storage. Loved the separate dining room. The whole property is very well equipped and comfortable.
Can’t fault this lovely home at all. We wouldn’t hesitate to book again if we’re in the area.
Although on a fairly busy road, the on-street parking was no problem and the secondary glazing meant no road noise at all. So handy for the town centre, the NYMR railway and Co-Op and Lidl supermarkets (5 mins stroll).
Very peaceful and private back garden lovely to sit out in.

A very nice and spacious house with all the amenities and equipment we needed. It was also quiet inside too. We found it easy enough to find parking nearby and also found some excellent restaurants in the town.

House is a good location in the middle of Pickering, it is a good base to visit the local area. Kitchen had everything needed for cooking etc. all was very clean and the TV had sky included. The living area also had a log burner which made it very homely of an evening.

As others have mentioned parking is an issue due to being on the main street (although a public car park is available 10 mins walk away). My biggest issue was the surprise deposit fee that was required, you have to pay either £10 fee plus the £250 deposit or a £25 'insurance fee', this is done through a company called 'Superhog' which requires you to enter all your personal details and looks very dubious (they have many complaints on trustpilot).

We enjoyed our stay at Sixpence Cottage which was delightful, however we will not be returning and in future will avoid all Host & Stay managed properties. There is a hidden charge of £25 per stay that might not be much over three days but for a one night stay makes a significant difference to the basic cost. This is charged by stealth and their claim that it is stated in the booking information when it is actually hidden away as a footnote in the House Rules is disingenuous. As it is compulsory add it to the up front cost or show it clearly.

The cottage was well presented ,clean and very comfortable. The garden is very pleasant to sit out in with a cup of coffee and the king size bed is probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

The only thing I didn't like was the painting of the procuress and prostitute in the bedroom. I'm an artist and art teacher so I'm not upset by paintings of the naked body. I just found this particular painting a bit creepy and upsetting.

Sixpence cottage was delightful and in an ideal location for visiting the local area. We would definitely consider using the cottage again in the future.

There was very little that we didn’t like. The parking could of been an issue with no dedicated parking, however, we did get a space fairly close to the property but this was a first come first served basis.

Pickering is an interesting town, full of independent shops, many are dog friendly. My dog and I visited cafe's, hotels, charity shops, there is even a dog friendly bakery! The people are really friendly, I felt very at home during my stay. I am unfamiliar with this area, it has so many interesting places explore. I will definitely visit Pickering Cottage again, it is a very convenient base to travel from, to experience a wealth of sights and experiences within the area. The cottage is very comfortable, the owners have decorated it to a high standard, and in keeping with the period it was built, with the addition of 'modern facilities'which are expected these days. The beds are very, very comfortable, and generous in size, with luxurious bed linnen. I slept so well, it was a pleasure to wake up refreshed in the morning. I am looking forward to staying at Pickering Cottage again.

Nice cottage, tastefully decorated. Unfortunately the heating and hot water did not work when we arrived so the place was cold. They could not fix it until the next day and did not offer any substitute heaters. The parking as mentioned is away from the cottage.

What a perfect weekend break - we absolutely loved it at Sixpence Cottage, we can’t wait to back! It was comfortable, cosy, clean and so beautifully decorated by the hosts! We loved exploring Whitby, which is just a short drive away. The only down side is we didn’t get to stay longer to visit Scarborough but we certainly will be next time. The amenities you are fantastic and better than lots of other cottages we’ve stayed in everything is brand new! Sitting out in the garden with a cuppa in the morning admiring all the lovely wild flowers in the garden was a lovely treat. 100% recommend this stunning cottage to anybody ?
