Quirky house in a great location less than a minute walk to the middle of Staithes. Beds were comfy and the property has its own charm. Lots of books and board games, 2 bathrooms also very much appreciated. More lighting needed in the kitchen, especially above the oven. The house is in need of some improvements, paint flaking off the walls and doors for example, it felt a little tired inside. Very limited welcome essentials - no nespresso pods for the coffee maker, eggs or bread etc. We stay in a lot of self catering and this is provided as standard 99% of the time. Little things like this push an average score to become a high score. Odd smell in the kitchen, some reed diffusers would help.

What a beautiful town and fantastic location! Ship's Bell is very quaint and characterful, clean and comfortable (great beds!). We had a few issues so can't leave a perfect review. We arrived to find the washing machine was broken - not ideal as a family of four arriving from five days of camping with no clean clothing left. After a couple of days someone came to collect our laundry (thank you!), but not until I'd done some handwashing in the bathtub. I appreciate that things break, but the broken washing machine had been noted in the cottage maintenance book by a previous guest a month before our stay. The broken shower had also been noted and had not been repaired. The maintenance team sent to repair it during our stay did not arrive. The kitchen is very dark, to the point where it is bordering on dangerous to be cooking. We brought down the bedroom reading lights. Strongly recommend improving the lighting in the kitchen! A bit of maintenance and this place would be a 10/10!

Lovely stay at the Ship’s Bell cottage. Well equipped and great to have the two bathroom for 4 adults. One of the showers was not working but the bath in that room was very nice. Low ceilings to be expected in a character cottage, just to be kept in mind if you have two 6 footers staying as we did. ;) Great location close to all of Staithes amenities and for exploring the East coast. We ate at the cod and lobster on Sunday which was good value for money and lots of fish dishes as the name suggests. Added bonus of a RNLI brass band playing on the Saturday night which gave the harbour a lively atmosphere. Beds were super comfy! All in all a great stay and we would recommend.

Excellent stay at the ships bell which is in a central location so convenient for lunch at Dotty’s Tearoom, coffee from cobbles or a drink and dinner at the cod & lobster. The accommodation is extremely spacious with 2 good sized bathrooms. All amenities catered for from kitchen utensils to a golf umbrella for the unpredictable weather. Great communication including a guest handbook both in the house itself & also online. Looking forward to another stay at the ships bell to continue our walks along the Cleveland way.

Fantastic property, so lucky to have found such a hidden gem for Easter. Lovely location, next to the beck and the beach and only minutes from all Staithes has to offer. Lovely comfortable bedrooms, very clean on arrival, well stocked kitchen and fantastic bathrooms, a real fusion of tradition and modern and enjoyed by our family and dogs. Great WiFi, lovely fire and selection of games or smart TV options. Comfy bedding, warm and inviting and we absolutely loved it. Top tip is to use the coastal path to get to and from the carpark, much more scenic and manageable than the steep road and you get to see some of the illusion trail and the boat house, steps are up by the museum. Loved talking the dogs to the beach in the morning, found some wonderful fossils and unusual shells. Perhaps we've been spoiled in the past but I think welcome baskets are customary now in holiday let's and the logs provided were minimal. The shop had shut by the time we got to check in so either an option of paying for logs and kindling etc would be helpful. Parking was around £40 for four nights which have unlimited use of the carpark at the top of the road. We managed to drop off and pick up during a very busy bank holiday weekend and it is part of the staithes experience!
